My Voice My Care was founded to address a common challenge in healthcare: understanding.
Inspired by firsthand experiences navigating medical information and language barriers, this initiative focuses on clarity, patient advocacy, and equitable access to understandable healthcare information.
As a student-led initiative, My Voice My Care believes that knowledge empowers individuals to ask questions, make informed decisions, and participate more actively in their care.
A personal story, told by the founder- Yunielis Vargas.
"My parents migrated to the United States from Puerto Rico in 2007 with little to no English. When I was born and diagnosed with sickle cell trait, they were unsure of what this meant and even had to call doctors in Puerto Rico to make sure I would be okay. This experience informed me on how language barriers can make healthcare confusing and stressful for families, and inspired me to start My Voice My Care to help teens and families understand medical information more clearly."
